Privacy Policy
Somewhere to Sit is operated by iamEtderick LLC. It is designed to give you a place to reflect, write, listen, and return to yourself without turning your personal thoughts into advertising material.

What we collect
- Account information: your email address, an optional name you choose, and the date you joined.
- Sign-in: if you sign in with email and password, your password is handled by our authentication provider and stored only in hashed form. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile from Google.
- Saved journal entries: only what you choose to keep (for example by tapping "Keep it" or "Set it down" as a member), together with the room and prompt it came from.
- Saved recalibration steps: when a member chooses "Keep this with me" in First Light, the steps and answers are saved as a private journal entry.
- Membership: your membership status, plan, and renewal date.
Writing that isn't saved
When the site tells you something isn't saved, it is held only in temporary memory in your browser while the page is open. It is not sent to us, and it disappears when you leave, refresh, or close the page.
"Help me find a room"
The "Help me find a room" feature lets you describe how you're feeling so an automated suggestion can point you toward one of the rooms. When you use it, the text you enter is sent to our AI service solely to generate that room suggestion.
iamEtderick LLC does not intentionally save that text to your profile, your journal, analytics, or marketing systems, and we don't use it to advertise to you. However, the AI service provider may process or retain limited request data according to its own service practices.
The suggestion is automated and not perfect. It is not therapy, diagnosis, crisis counseling, or medical care, and it can miss signs that someone needs urgent help. If anything you're feeling involves danger to yourself or others, please see Need immediate help?
Who can see your journal
Saved entries are protected so that only your signed-in account can read them. They are stored on our hosting provider's servers and are encrypted in transit. We do not offer end-to-end encryption, so they are not hidden from the systems that run the service.
We do not intentionally use the contents of your private journal entries or written room reflections for advertising or marketing analytics.
Payments
Membership and gift payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never reach us. We keep a reference to your Stripe customer record and your membership status so we know you have a seat. Stripe's own privacy policy applies to the data it processes.
Gift a Seat
- What we collect from purchasers: your account email, the recipient's email address, the gift type, an optional name to show and optional message, whether the gift is anonymous, and the delivery date you choose.
- How we use the recipient's email: only to send that gift's invitation and related gift notices (for example, a fresh link you request). We don't add recipients to marketing lists.
- Anonymous gifts: the recipient's invitation, gift link, and account show no purchaser name, email, or payment information. Purchasers can see whether a gift was delivered and claimed, but not who claimed it or how it's used.
- Who else can see gift records: iamEtderick LLC can see purchase, delivery, and redemption records to run billing and support. Gift records never include journal entries, check-ins, or listening history.
- Email delivery records: we keep a log of gift emails sent (recipient address, type, status). For support, that log can include the gift link sent, visible only to iamEtderick LLC.
- Retention: gift purchase and redemption records are kept for billing, tax, fraud-prevention, and legal reasons, including after an account is deleted. When a purchaser deletes their account, we remove the link between them and gifts they bought, while keeping the payment record.
Technical and security logs
Like most websites, our hosting and database providers keep basic technical logs (such as IP address, browser type, and request times) to run the service, keep it secure, and fix errors.
Analytics
We don't currently use an analytics service. If we add one, it will only receive general events (such as "a room was opened" or "membership page viewed") and never the words you write. We'll update this policy before that happens.
Cookies and local storage
We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in and to remember your ambient sound choice and volume. We don't use advertising cookies. The payment form, provided by Stripe, may set its own cookies for fraud prevention.
How long we keep things
Your account and saved entries are kept until you delete them or delete your account. If your membership ends, your earlier saved entries stay readable in your journal. Payment records are kept by Stripe as required by law.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from your account page. This cancels any active membership and permanently removes your sign-in, your profile, and all your saved journal entries and First Light steps. Backups held by our providers are cycled out over time.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export, or delete your information. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws.
Not a medical service
Somewhere to Sit is not a healthcare provider, and this is not a healthcare privacy notice.
